Best settings to boost FPS in Bodycam (v0.8 Locked & Loaded)

Bodycam is one of the most demanding Unreal Engine 5 games around, and v0.8 changes its graphics options quite a bit. This guide is based on the official Locked & Loaded notes and follow-up patches. It doesn't include made-up FPS numbers: every PC is different, so test changes one at a time at the Lobby firing range.

1. Turn on an upscaler (the biggest win)

v0.8 supports DLSS 4.5, FSR 4 and XeSS 3. This is the setting that gives the most FPS for the least visual loss.

  • NVIDIA RTX: start with DLSS Quality at 1440p or Balanced at 4K.
  • AMD: FSR 4 if your card supports it; otherwise try XeSS.
  • Intel Arc: XeSS 3.

The studio also improved upscaler auto exposure to reduce sharpening artifacts, a common complaint in earlier versions.

2. Frame generation: use it wisely

v0.8 supports DLSS and FSR frame generation, and patch #1 added DLSS Multi Frame Generation.

  • Use it if you already get more than 60 real FPS and want extra smoothness on a high-refresh monitor.
  • Avoid it if your base frame rate is low: it adds latency, and that shows in a competitive mode like Wingman.

3. Watch out for magnified optics

The new picture-in-picture scopes render the scene twice. If you see frame drops when aiming down a scope:

  • Make sure you're up to date: patch #1 improved scope capture performance and Lumen scalability in scope views.
  • If it still stutters, try red dots or holographic sights: most fights on Trenches, CQB and in Wingman happen at short to medium range.

4. Blur, grain and post-processing

  • Motion blur: v0.8 improved it, but turning it off gives more clarity and a little performance.
  • Film grain: a simple toggle since patch #5. Turn it off for a sharper image; the performance cost is low.
  • Gamma: use the new calibration, especially for night matches.

5. Presets and resolution scale

v0.8 improved graphics presets and resolution scale handling. Start with the preset the game suggests, enable an upscaler, and only then lower individual settings.

6. What already helps without touching anything

  • The dynamic day/night cycle was replaced by per-round lighting and weather scenarios. The studio cites "significant performance gains" from no longer recalculating shadows constantly.
  • Gameplay logic moved from Blueprints to C++, lowering CPU cost.
  • Since v0.7.0 the game runs on UE 5.5 with Virtual Textures, which is easier on VRAM.
